Dr. Ben Barr joins Seo Lab at UHM as a new postdoctoral researcher!

Dr. Ben Barr is an expert in sea spray modeling and air–sea interaction under high-wind conditions. He has published influential studies on sea spray parameterizations (Barr et al., 2023) and their effects on tropical cyclones (Barr et al., 2025). Before joining UH, Ben was a postdoctoral researcher at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) from 2023 to 2025. He earned his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Washington in 2023 under the guidance of Prof. Shuyi Chen. At UH, Ben will continue advancing sea-state-based sea spray modeling, contributing to the development of a next-generation, sea-spray–enabled COARE bulk flux algorithm.
